The Naxos potatoes are a special variety which used to be the prized in the whole of Greece, sold at almost double the price than the others. Years ago they were cultivated in special fields, under plenty of sunshine, but with little water. These potatoes are small, solid and very tasty, one of the most characteristic products of the Cycladic earth.
Potatoes thrived in Naxos since the beginning of the century and their cultivation expanded and became an element of prosperity for the island. Nowadays, this activity has been largely abandonned, as so many similar traditional occupations.
