Tilos is famous for the excellent quality of its almonds, a nut that appears in countless sweets and confections throughout both the Dodecanese and the Cyclades. In Tilos as well as in Leros, almonds are used to make soumada, an almond syrup; in Tilos this unusual elixir is also the basis of another beverage, poetically named dasogalo, or “forest milk.”
